Elsah, Ill. - The women's tennis team started off the 2014 spring season with two sweeps over Missouri Baptist and Principia in matches held in Elsah, Ill. The Saints won both matches by 9-0 scores.
In the first match against Missouri Baptist, Philine Schlorf dropped one game in each set as she posted a 6-1, 6-1 in at No. 1 singles. Marina Marti and Adriana Armendariz both swept their foes as No. 2 and No. 3 singles with 6-0, 6-0 wins. Anne Lutz won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1, Renske Linders posted a 6-0, 6-2 win in the fifth singles spot, and Nicole Kitsuse recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6. Schlorf and Armendariz combined to take the No. 1 doubles 8-1, while Lutz and Linders picked up the win at No. 2 8-4. In the final doubles match, Kitsuse and Marti posted an 8-2 triumph.
Versus host Principia, Schlorf recorded a 6-2, 6-3 in the top singles slot, while Marti dropped just one game at No. 2. Armendariz was again perfect as she won all 12 games at No. 3 singles, while Lutz won No. 4 6-2, 6-2. Linders and Kitsuse took the fifth and sixth singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 marks. In doubles action, Schlorf and Armendariz won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Lutz and Linders took the No. 2 doubles match 8-1. Kirsuse and Marti won the final doubles point with an 8-2 decision.
