Powered by five victories in singles play, the Maryville women's tennis team defeated McKendee 7-2 for its first win of the 2015 season. The match was contested at Kings Point Courts in Belleville, Ill.

The Bearcats narrowly took No. 1 doubles by an 8-6 count but the Saints rebounded to take the final two doubles slots. Kine Kleppe and Rebekah Anderson won the No. 2 competition 8-3, and Katharina Tietmann and Andrea Fandino took the No. 3 doubles match by the same score.

In the singles competition, McKendree again won the point at No. 1 but the Saints swept the rest of the matches. Anderson battled to win at No. 2 as she rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 triumph. Puck Vlaskamp won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, and Anne Lutz was victorious at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-3 count. Katharina Tietman recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5, while Fandino dropped just one game in each set in easing to a 6-1, 6-1 win.

The Saints are next in action Feb. 27, when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to face Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.
