The Maryville women's tennis team swept Missouri Baptist 9-0 Friday afternoon but then was defeated 7-2 by the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday morning in north St. Louis. The Saints stand at 5-5 on the season.
Against Missouri Baptist, Puck Vlaskamp and Anne Lutz posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles slot. Kine Kleppe and Manon Halna De Fretay eased to an 8-3 win in the second doubles position, while Rebekah Anderson and Andrea Fandino posted a shutout in the third doubles competition.
Katerina Tietmann won the No. 1 singles match, and Peggy Vink recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the second singles position. Anderson won all 12 games at No. 3 singles, while Lutz posted a 6-2, 6-0 win in the fourth slot. Vlaskamp took 12 of 13 games at No. 5, and Makenna Parker recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win.
At UMSL, Vlaskamp and Lutz took the only doubles points for the Saints at No. 1. In No. 2 singles action, Anderson was edged 7-5 in the third set tiebreaker, while Vlaskamp was downed 6-4 in the third. Fandino won the only singles point for Maryville as she recorded a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
