The Maryville women's tennis team went on the road and edged out William Jewell 5-4 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest in Liberty, Mo., Friday afternoon. The win ups the Saints mark to 7-6 overall, 1-1 in the league.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Anne Lutz and Puck Vlaskamp got the Saint to a strong start with an 8-6 victory. The No. 2 tandem of Rebekah Anderson and Andrea Fandino followed with an 8-4 win. The Saints were edged 9-8 in the final doubles match.
 
Vlaskamp continued her strong play as she posted a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win at the top singles match. The Cardinals took a three-set victory at the second singles position but Kine Kleppe recorded a 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. WJC again won a three-set decision at No. 4 as well as at No. 5. However, Manon Halna Du Fretay posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
 
The Saints close out their two-day road swing with a contest at Drury Saturday.
