For the first time in program history, the Maryville women's tennis team defeated Rockhurst 5-4 in a tightly-contested Great Lakes Valley Conference match played Friday at the Creve Coeur Tennis Courts.
 
The Saints jumped out to an early lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. Puck Vlaskamp and Anne Lutz teamed up to take the first doubles match 8-5. The Hawks won the point at No. 2 doubles but Andrea Fandino and Rebekah Anderson won a thriller at the third doubles slot 9-8 by prevailing 7-5 in the tiebreak.
 
Rockhurst won the No. 1 singles point in three-sets before Vlaskamp was victorious at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3. Anderson followed up with a straight-set triumph at No. 3 by a 6-3, 6-4 count. However, the Hawks claimed the next two singles points to tie the match at 4-4. Manon Halna Du Fretay was matched versus RU's Maddy Kayser. The duo split the first two sets with Kayser winning set one, while Halna Du Fretay took set two to set up a dramatic final set to determine the winner of the match. Halna Du Fretay won the first two games before Kayser won the third game. Halna Du Fretay took the next two games to create a cushion and held on for the 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win and gave Maryville the final match point.
