Edmond, Okla. - The Maryville wrestling team, ranked No. 3 in the country, traveled to Edmond, Okla., to take on Central Oklahoma but saw a rally fall short as UCO downed the Saints 24-15.
The Saints fell behind early as the Bronchos won the first four matches, including two via falls. Maryville got on the board when Greg Hegarty claimed a 3-1 decision at 157. However, Central Oklahoma took the next two bouts to grab a 24-3 lead.
Nick Burghardt started the Saints rally as he posted a 4-1 victory in the 184 weight classification. Ryan Beltz continued the Maryville momentum with a pin at 1:52 to win his bout at 197 as the Saints drew to 24-12. In the heavyweight matchup, Donnell Walker recorded a 5-3 victory but UCO held on for the 24-15 win.
The Saints are next in action Sunday, Jan. 31, as they host their first dual match versus Fort Hays State starting at 3 p.m.
