The Maryville women's tennis team was edged out 5-4 by Newman University Friday in an indoor match at Kings Point in Belleville, Ill. The Saints won two of the doubles matches before Newman rallied by winning four of the six singles matches.

Puck Vlaskamp and Rebekah Anderson eased to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Lucy Horbatowski and Cara Rickert grabbed the No. 3 doubles point with a narrow 9-8 (7-4) win. Horbatowski was the first singles winner at No. 3 as she won in straight sets. Newman started its rally but Andrea Fandino took a close match at No. 2 singles. However, Newman took the final three matches to claim the narrow victory.
