Belleville, Ill. - The Maryville women's tennis team took on NCAA Division I squad Western Illinois in a match that was moved indoors to Belleville, Ill., due to weather, as WIU defeated the Saints 5-2.
Western Illinois took the top two doubles matches but Cara Rickert and Kine Kleppe grabbed the third doubles position by an 8-4 score. WIU won the top singles match before Rebekah Anderson took the No. 4 singles decision by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Western Illinois claimed the fifth singles match, and the Saints had to default the No. 2 singles match to close out the match. The final two matches were unfinished.
The Saints are now 2-3 on the season, while Western Illinois improves to 4-7.
