St. Charles, Mo. -
Louis Niemerg closed out the final home game of the 2016 Maryville baseball season in memorable fashion. The third baseman hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to boost the Saints to a 4-3 win in game two of the Senior Day doubleheader over Drury. The Panthers held off Maryville 6-5 to take game one but the Saints won the weekend series with three victories.

In game one, the Panthers struck for two runs in the top of the first to snare the early lead. The Saints responded by pulling one run back.
Mitch Carriger walked and scored on
Dalton Schumer's double to the gap. Both starting pitchers did not allow a run until each team again scored in the fourth inning. Drury used a two-run single by Ryan Wadkins for a 4-1 advantage. Schumer struck again for Maryville as he drilled a solo homer over the fence in left center to cut the gap to 4-2.

Zack Ruckman drove in the run with a single. After a Schumer walk,
Evan Reister was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Tyler Catlett's single. Niemerg plated Murphy for a three-run Maryville lead.
The Panthers answered with a two-run single in the top of the second to pull to within 3-2. Drury tied the game in the top of the fifth but then the pitching staffs dominated as neither team scored until the dramatic walk-off blast by Niemerg over the fence in left. The homer was his fourth of the season.
