Saints Defeated by Drury, 4-0 and 10-3

Springfield, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team could not get the offense going as the Saints dropped a pair of games to Drury University Sunday afternoon at US Baseball Park in Springfield, Mo. Maryville fell in the opener. 4-0 and saw Drury battle back to win the nightcap, 10-3.

Drury scored all the runs that they needed in the home half of the first inning as the Panthers took a 4-0 on four hits, including a pair of home runs, while holding the Maryville offensive attack at bay as the Saints scattered only four hits in the game.

Louis Niemerg went the distance for the Saints and gave up four runs on seven hits while Danny Covert was 1-for-3 with a double in the loss for Maryville.

The Saints cracked the scoreboard first in the series finale as Garrett Taylor doubled to left field and scored as Tyler Catlett laid down a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled by the Panthers to give Maryville a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Catlett then scored on a ground out by Camdon Mercier to take a 2-0 advantage. The Saints added a run in the seventh as Cody Klotz drilled a two-out double to left center field and scored as Taylor singled to right center to give Maryville a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers gained control of the game by putting up three runs in the seventh to tie the contest at 3-3 and then scored seven runs while sending 13 batters to the plate in the eighth inning to take a 10-3 lead.

Taylor paced the Saints at the plate with two of the Maryville five hits in the contest while adding a run batted in. Zach Morrisey suffered the loss in pitching two-thirds of an inning and giving up three runs on three hits as the Saints fell to 22-24 and 9-15 in conference play.
