St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team needed a late goal by
Rasmus Tauts to earn a 2-1 victory over Jefferson College Saturday afternoon at Maryville field. The win gave Maryville a 3-0 record as they completed the exhibition season.
What Happened – Maryville scored the first goal of the day as
Helgi Jonsson placed a perfect header into the upper right corner of the goal off a pass from
Gavino Carranza in the 8
th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Vikings came right back and scored in the 10
th minute to tie the affair at 1-1. After the teams turned the game into a defensive battle for over 70 minutes, Tauts took a pass from
Bill Stimac and buried it into the back of the net from 10-yards out in the 82
nd minute to give the Saints the lead. Maryville out-shot the Vikings 11-3 on the afternoon.
Up Next – Maryville open the regular season on Friday, September 1, as the Saints play host to Northwood University. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m. at Maryville Field.
