Box Score The Maryville men's tennis team challenged No. 48 Lewis until the final set of the final match but the Flyers prevailed 4-3 to edge the Saints out of the 2019 GLVC Championships. The contest was held Friday at the University Tennis Center on the campus of UIndy.
The Flyers won the doubles point by taking all three matches to open the contest. Jack Beuttell-Triggs picked up the first win with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. Bodin Aleksic took his match at the fifth position via a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory. Juan Segura rallied for a crucial 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win to tie the match at 3-3 to set up the deciding singles contest at No. 6. Donovan McKnight won the first set 6-2 but Lewis' Brendan Peterson took the next set 6-2 to force the final set of the match. He prevailed 6-3 to give the Flyers the win.
The Saints end their year with a record of 9-7, while the Flyers advance to the semifinals with a 10-4 record.
