The No. 23 Maryville wrestling team earned a split in its season opening matches held in St. Charles, Mo., at Lindenwood. The Saints were edged by No. 5 McKendree 21-12 but bounced back to roll over Davenport 42-3. Due to the CoVID-19 pandemic, the Saints are competing against only Great Lakes Valley Conference teams this season.
 
The Saints and Bearcats split the first five matches all coming via decision. Tyler Kreith won 6-2, while Tyler Stegall posted a 6-1 triumph. However, McKendree took the next three tilts. Bailey Kelly claimed a hard fought 9-3 win, while Logan Radik had a sudden victory by a 3-1 count.
 
Versus Davenport, the Saints dominated by taking the first six matches. Taylor Jokerst notched a fall, while Michael Peters had the quickest pin of the day at 1:07. Caleb Knobell also pinned his foe, while Joey Williams did the same. Radik went 2-0 on the day with a 1-0 win in the finale of the competition.
 
The Saints are next in action when they face host Drury and Ouachita Baptist, Sunday, Jan. 24, in Springfield, Mo.
