Indianapolis - Junior pitcher Ryan Louck and graduate student designated hitter Joey Polak were chosen to the 2021 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Second Team as announced by the league Wednesday. Reese Snyder was chosen as Maryville's nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.
 
Louck was fourth in the GLVC at the end of the regular season with a 2.30 ERA and ranked third in fewest earned runs allowed with just 14. The lefty held opposing batters to a .216 average, fourth lowest in the league. Louck recorded double-digit strikeouts in three games, including a season-high 13 against Winona State. In perhaps his best outing of the year, he threw a complete-game three-hit shutout against Missouri St. Louis with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Louck went 6-2 on the season with 71 strikeouts versus only 15 walks in 54-2/3 innings of work.
 
Polak smashed 15 home runs, the second most in a season in program history, and ranks second in the GLVC in round trippers. He posted a .416 in batting average, to rank fifth in the league. Polak was fourth in slugging percentage at .824 and was fifth in on-base percentage at .513. He put together the longest hitting streak in school history at 25 games and recorded at least one hit in 31 of 32 conference games. Polak has six doubles, drove in 36 runs and scored 31 times.
 
The Saints closed out the 2021 season on a six-game winning streak, capped by a four-game sweep at McKendree, the first time Maryville won all four games in a road series since May 2013.
