She is one of 22 student-athletes, representing eight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) institutions, who were voted the 2020-21 GLVC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, as announced by the Conference office Friday.
Rodriguez, who completed her junior year at Maryville, is a history major with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. She led the Saints to their first ITC National Tournament appearance in 2021. Rodriguez was a first-team All-GLVC selection for the second straight season. She earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic and chosen to the Columbia 300 Saints Invitational. Rodriguez helped the Saints win the Hammer Bearcat Open and was chosen the GLVC Bowler of the Week March 8, 2021. Bolstered by Rodriguez, the Saints climbed as high as No. 9 in the NTCA National Rankings. She averaged 196.9 pins per game and had a high score of 248 this season.
Rodriguez was voted to the NTCA All-Academic list in 2020 and helped the Saints garner NTCA Team All-Academic accolades. She is a nominee for the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District award and earned the GLVC's Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar award in 2020 and 2021.
The league selects one student-athlete in each Conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average that meets Academic All-America standards (3.30), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. The voting is completed by each member institution's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).
