Springfield, Ill. - The Maryville tennis teams opened fall 2021 play at the two-day University of Illinois Springfield Fall Invitational.

Jack Beuttell-Triggs reached the finals of the "A" back draw but had to withdraw in the finals. In the "B" draw,
Tom Schmitt advanced to the semifinals, while freshman
Juan Suero won the consolation B bracket by rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 superset win.

On the women's side, three of the four Saints players won their first match in the "A" draw.
Maria Gouveia came all the way back to win the consolation bracket 6-2, 7-6.
Victoria Lisson won the "B" bracket by taking all three of her matches, including 6-3, 6-1 in the final match. She also combined with
Maria Paula Suarez to claim the title in the women's doubles B as the duo won all three of their matches.

The Saints women's team is in action at the ITA Regional held in Indianapolis Sept. 18-20. The men's squad returns to the court Sept. 17-19 at the ITA Fall Circuit contested at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
