Indianapolis - Maryville men's tennis sophomore
Mario Aleksic won the singles A Flight of the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Midwest Regional Championship held in Indianapolis. The prestigious title is the first regional championship for the Saints in program history.

Aleksic, who was the ninth seed in the field, won six straight matches to win the crown. He started his tournament run with a 6-0, 6-2 win and followed up with a 6-3, 6-4 decision. In the round of 16, Aleksic defeated No. 5 seed Edgar Destouet of Indianapolis.

In the quarterfinals, Aleksic rallied to defeat Michael Gurtner 1-6, 7-5, 10-6. Facing top-seeded Dom Spicer, Aleksic rolled past the Wayne State player in a decisive 6-3, 6-2 score line. In the title match, he downed No. 8 seed Ruben Fonga of Tiffin by a 6-3, 6-4 margin to claim Maryville's first championship.

The ITA Regional is the final event of the fall season for the Saints, who will resume play early in 2023.
