MARQUETTE, Mich. – Maryville University women's soccer is set to take on Grand Valley State University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 19, at noon (CT). The Saints take on the Lakers for the second consecutive year in the second round after defeating Northern Michigan University 2-1 in Friday's opening-round game.

Gigi Yurevich early in Friday's game, forcing her to make five saves in the first half alone. She held NMU off until
Ashlyne Hunt scored in the 87
th minute followed by
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig's game-winner in the 88th minute. Northern Michigan got a goal in the last minute of the game, but the Saints hung on to a 2-1 victory to win the second NCAA Tournament game in program history.

Grand Valley State went 12-3-6 overall in 2023 with an 8-1-5 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. After losing 1-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the GLIAC Semifinals,
the Lakers rebounded with a 3-0 win over the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Champion McKendree Bearcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sunday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs, with all of them coming since the beginning of 2022. Last season, the Saints lost 1-0 on Aug. 27, 2022, before losing again 1-0 on Nov. 13, 2022, in the NCAA Second Round. They also played on Sept. 2, of this season, earning a 1-1 tie on the road thanks to a
goal from Nilson-Hurtig in the 51st minute.
