Box Score St. Louis – The Maryville men's tennis team played a tightly-contested match Sunday afternoon at Dwight Davis Tennis Center but William Jewell edged the Saints 4-3 in the 2023 spring season opener.
 
Mario Aleksic and Sebastian Trigosso won the No. 1 doubles match 6-3 but the Cardinals took the other two contests and the team point for the 1-0 lead heading to singles.
 
The Cardinals won the No. 1 singles match via an injury and also took the No. 2 spot. Trigosso worked for a 7-5 decision in the third set of the No. 3 singles contest. William Jewell claimed the fourth singles match but Juan Suero swept the No. 5 singles position 6-1, 6-4. Yann Frezouls was victorious at the sixth singles position for the Saints.
 
The Saints next play Saturday, Feb. 11, when Rockhurst visits for a 1:30 p.m. match at Sunset Tennis Center.
