ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Maryville University men's track & field took fourth place while the women took fifth at the WashU Invitational over the weekend.
Sarai Brown led the way for the women, racking up 18 points for the Saints with a win and a second-place finish. The freshman sprinter set the school record in the 100m with a 12.18 and a second-place finish. She added 10 more points to the team score by winning the gold in the 200m at 25.28.
Senior
Nia Lyles continued an impressive season with another victory in the shot put. Lyles picked up the eighth event win of the 2022-23 campaign and first of the outdoor season with a 12.59m effort on Saturday.
Macie Farrier,
Abby Stone, and
Grace Graham also played their parts. Farrier scored with a silver medal in the javelin throw (32.51m), while Stone and Graham took fourth place in the 400m and high jump, respectively.
Jobey Smith took home the top finish for the men, logging 10 points with a first-place 55.83 in the 400m hurdles. The win gave Smith the fourth individual title of his career.
In the 400m,
Rand Mathews and
Vincent Hoffman finished second and third helping the team add 14 points.
Austin Terry scored six points in the high jump with a 40.64m effort and
Dawson McCown posted three after a 4:09.91 in the 1500m race.
The outdoor track & field season continues on Saturday, April 8 as they travel to Jefferson City, Mo., to take on the Lincoln University Open.
