FAYETTE, Mo. – The Maryville track & field team traveled to Fayette, Missouri, last week for the CMU Invite, hosted by Central Methodist, and returned with three program records and four NCAA provisional marks. Freshman
Harry Mitchell accounted for two of those provisional marks, continuing his historic first season.
RECORD AND PROVO WATCH
The 4x100 relay team of
Giovanni Jones,
Brendon Hoyte,
Jayden Atkins and Mitchell highlighted the meet for the Saints, clocking a 40.63 to set a new program record.
Mitchell's day extended beyond the relay, as he won both the 200 meters and 400 meters, hitting provisional standards and setting new program-best marks in each. His 200 time of 20.55 ranks second nationally, while his 400 time of 46.80 places him 19th in the nation and third among freshmen.
Not to be outdone, GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
Sarai Brown made her first major mark of the outdoor season. Brown sprinted to an NCAA provisional mark of 11.60 in the 100 meters, ranking 11th nationally.
OTHER NOTABLES
On the men's field side,
Amel Abdul-Mumin cleared 1.96 meters in the high jump to finish fourth, just shy of two meters. On the women's side,
Olivia Clive turned in a strong performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing third in 12:53.54.
Graice Metzger rounded out the top-five finishes with a fourth-place throw of 31.73 meters in the javelin.
