Women's Lacrosse Sees Five Earn All-Region Honors from IWLCA

The Maryville women's lacrosse team had five student-athletes pick up Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association All-Region honors. Headlining the awards were first-team All-Region selections senior attack Jessie Hynes, junior defender Ronnie Skorcz and senior midfielder Sydney Tiemann. Garnering All-Region second team honors are freshman attack Helen Bae and senior defender Olivia Sardina.

Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Hynes ranks 20th in the nation with 63 goals scored. She also ranks second on the team with 27 assists, and her 90 points are good for second on the squad. Hynes was a recent second-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection.

Two weeks ago, Skorcz was named the GLVC Defender of the Year. She has amassed 32 caused turnovers, 34 ground balls and snared 53 draw controls. Skorcz and the Saints defense is only surrendering 9.11 goals per game. Her efforts have directed Maryville to the most ground balls in the GLVC.

The reigning GLVC Attack Player of the Year, Tiemann broke the NCAA Division II single-season scoring record this year, and her 112 goals scored leads all three levels of NCAA women's lacrosse. She leads the nation in goals per game at 5.89 and in total points at 126 (112 goals and 14 assists). Tiemann has scored at least three goals in 17 of 19 games. Tiemann tallied 11 goals at Missouri Western, tied for the most in the nation this year.

Bae, who was tabbed the GLVC Freshman of the Year, ranks 22nd in the nation in scoring with 62 goals. She has added 11 assists for 73 total points. Bae has 57 draw controls to go along with 28 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. She fired in 10 goals against Rockhurst, tied for the second most by a player in a game this season.

Sardina has been one of the standouts on the defense and is second on the team with 26 caused turnovers. She has also snared 39 ground balls. Sardina has been one of the main reasons the Saints have cleared their defensive zone a sparkling 86.9 percent.

The Saints carry a school record mark of 17-2 into the first round of the NCAA Tournament. In the program's first appearance, the No. 3 seeded Saints will take on defending national champion Indianapolis Friday, May 12, in a 3 pm MT / 4 pm CT start.
