CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Maryville University W1 hockey earned a home split with Lindenwood University over the weekend. The Saints dropped Friday's game 3-2 before responding with a 6-1 win on Saturday behind
Mady Johnsen's hat trick.
The women came out firing in the first period on Friday, outshooting the Lions 14-10 while picking up goals from
Mady Johnsen and
Elle Rutherford. Lindenwood responded over the next two periods with two goals from Hilary Pearce and the game-winner from Katelynn Weeks to steal a 3-2 comeback win over the Saints.
Johnsen again opened the scoring on Saturday after netting a feed from
Sophie Brennan.
Colleen O'Leary scored her seventh of the year less than three minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0.
Maryville started the second period on the powerplay and Johnsen capitalized 17 seconds in with her second of the game on assists from
Ana Kahlhammer and
Sarah Brooks. Rutherford added another powerplay goal for her fifth of the year at 13:41.
Lindenwood got one back near the end of the second, but O'Leary scored again at 4:52 in the third before Johnsen capped off a hat trick with her 16
th of the season at 16:08.
Sawyer Duncan sealed up a 6-1 win in between the pipes, her third of the season, making 24 saves on 25 shots.
The season rolls on with a long weekend at home against Minot State University on Thursday, Jan. 25, the University of Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 26, and Liberty University on Saturday, Jan. 27.
