W1 Saints Fall in Double OT in National Finals

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville W1 Hockey team fell one game short of a national title, falling to No. 1 Liberty University in double-OT in St. Louis.

The Saints had ran the table up to that point, dominating Miami of Ohio 6-0 before defeating Michigan-Dearborn 3-1 to come out of pool play 2-0.

A 5-3 victory over No. 3 and 2024 National Champion Adrian College sent the Saints to their first ever national fine, matching up with the Flames. That bout came down to the second overtime with Liberty finishing it off at the second minute of the second OT.

The win marks the sixth National Championship for the Liberty Flames in eight years.

With a 26-14 record, the year marks the best season for the women's team yet. This team marks the firs time in program history that the Saints were ranked No. 1 in the nation, finishing the year No. 2.

COACHES' CORNER
Head Coach Tommy Lange on the run…
"Our ladies have a ton to be proud of. This was our team's best season. Its incredible how far our program has come in just five years. Our team had some special moments this season like knocking off Midland and Liberty during the regular season. And making it to the championship game and winning three games this national tournament was special. I know our girls are looking forward to the new bar that we have set this year while setting their sights on another championship run next year!"
