ST. LOUIS – The Maryville Women's ACHA Division I hockey team wasted no time setting the tone for the 2025–26 campaign, sweeping perennial power Adrian College on opening weekend. The Saints battled to a gritty 1–0 shutout win on Saturday before following up with a 4–1 victory on Sunday.
The two wins push Maryville to a perfect 2–0 start as they look to build on last year's historic run to the national championship game.
Sophomore forward Hailey Beckett, last season's ACHA Freshman of the Year, picked up right where she left off. Beckett tallied two goals on the weekend, showcasing her scoring touch and ability to lead the Saints' attack.
Maryville also saw balanced contributions throughout the lineup, with multiple players finding the scoresheet in Sunday's decisive win. On the back end, the defense corps and goaltending stood tall, allowing just one goal over two games against a high-powered Adrian squad.
Head coach Tommy Lange praised his team's opening effort but stressed the importance of continued growth. "It's always great to start the season with two wins against a quality opponent like Adrian," Lange said. "We saw a lot of positives this weekend, but we know the season is a marathon. We need to keep building every day in practice to be ready for the challenges ahead, especially a tough trip to Minot State in two weeks."
