W1 Hockey Makes Program History with First Ever #1 Ranking

TROY, Mich. – For the first time in program history, the Maryville University W1 hockey team has claimed the No. 1 spot in the second week's ranking of the 2024-2025 American Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Division 1 season. The Saints (7-1-1-0) were on the road against No. 3 ranked Adrian College (6-2-0-1). The Saints lost the first game in overtime 3-2 but won the second game 4-2.

McKendree, a fellow GLVC school, sits second in the country. The Women's Midwest College Hockey League has six (of 8) member teams ranked, while the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association has seven (of 12) of its member teams ranked, and the Western Women's Collegiate Hockey League has one (of 6).

A total of 33 teams are competing in Women's Division 1 this season, including one new full member team, University of Arizona, and a probationary member, University of Washington.

The ACHA uses two computer rankings, Ranking A (Wins with goal differential of 6) and Ranking B (Wins with maximum goal differential of 1) to come up with an average of the two rankings, which determines the ranking spots for teams.
