HOWELL, N.J. – The Maryville women's bowling team concluded the 2024 portion of it's schedule over the weekend, placing sixth among a tough field at the Garden State Classic. The Saints overall went 9-4, scoring a total pinfall of 13,446, averaging 200.7 as a squad.

Individually,
Kaitlyn Cavender was the leader among the Saints, finishing 14
th overall in the field of 137. The senior from New Baltimore, Mich. carried an average of 207 over her five games, with a high game of 227 in her second game.
Siyah Sweeny and
Morgan Brunner were not far behind as the pair finished back-to-back in 22nd and 23
rd, each averaging just under 200 over the weekend.

Friday Baker play saw the Saints leave in sixth place, rolling to a 4-1 record, with the biggest win coming in the teams fourth match of the day where they knocked off No. 6-ranked North Carolina A&T State 992-947.

The Saints carried the positive energy in Saturday traditional play, scoring back to back wins to start the day, including a 1006-811 domination of Adelphi. A close match that did not go the Saints' way against No. 20 FDU didn't shake the team as they rattled off a 988-891 win over No. 10 Duquesne just a match later. A final 938-898 win over Monmouth, the host of the tournament, left Maryville fifth heading into bracket play.

The Saints began bracket action with a familiar foe in North Carolina A&T State, sweeping the Aggies in their second meeting in the Garden State. Losses to No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 12 Mount St. Mary's ended the weekend for the Saints.

UP NEXT
The Saints have a healthy break before they return to action as they will not see hardwood until Jan. 17-19 when they once again head towards the east coast. The Saints will next battle the Northeast Classic out of New Castle, Del.
