AUSTIN, Texas – Two days, two All-America nods for Maryville University defender
Lotte Brands who has now been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024 Academic All-America® women's soccer second team.
Just a day prior, Brands was placed on the All-America second team for the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, making program history as the first Maryville women's soccer player in program history to earn All-American honors for multiple organizations in the same season.
The senior from Amsterdam, Netherlands, tallied 1,545 minutes upon the Saints' backline, anchoring a defense that limited opponents to 0.45 goals a game, ending the year eighth in the nation. She added four goals alongside three assists, one of which occurred in the GLVC tournament. Brands recorded 90-minute performances in 12 of the Saints contests this season.
The defense helped the Saints to back-to-back GLVC regular season titles as well as the No. 2-seed in the NCAA tournament. It was a historic season for the Saints, posting a 16-1-3 record, including a perfect 13-0-1 GLVC mark, the best in the DII-era. The team reached as high at No. 8 in the national rankings. They progressed all the way to the second-round the NCAA tournament.
Brands is just one of two Great Lakes Valley Conference representatives upon the Academic All-America list, the other being Anna Lantz of Rockhurst who earned the prestigious CSC Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year honor.
