INDIANAPOLIS – After a 16-1-3 season and a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) regular season title, the Maryville women's soccer team has been voted to finish first in the league in 2025, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The preseason poll is selected by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own teams.
Led by reigning GLVC Coach of the Year and eighth-year head coach
Lori Lawson, the Saints garnered seven first-place votes and 188 total points to earn the top spot.
Despite a large graduating class that saw multiple All-Americans leave the program, the Saints retained a wealth of talent, headlined by 2024 GLVC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and Second-Team D2CCA All-Midwest forward
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig, Second-Team All-GLVC and Second-Team D2CCA All-Midwest forward
Ashlyne Hunt, and GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year and First-Team All-GLVC goalkeeper
Agnes Vilen.
Nilson-Hurtig and Hunt combined for 22 goals last season, while the Vilen put together one of the best goalkeeping seasons in Saints history, tallying 13 shutouts and leading the GLVC in goals-against average and save percentage.
The Saints open the 2025 season at home, hosting Washburn Thursday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. The full schedule can be found
