Track & Field Earns Highest Finishes at GLVC Championships in Program History

INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University track & field had both programs finish in fourth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships and broke eight school records over the weekend. The Saints logged the highest finishes in program history at the conference meet with 55 points on the men's side and 50 points for the women.
 
The top scorers for the men were Jobey Smith in the 400m and Nathan Hippard in the 60m. Smith logged a personal best 48.80 to take the silver in the event while Hippard took the bronze with a PR 6.96.
 
One of the top individual performances of the weekend came from Amel Abdul-Mumin who hit the NCAA National Provisional mark in the triple jump. The freshman out of Hazelwood West High School posted a 14.44m effort to take fourth in the event. He also scored for the team with a second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.92m and a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 6.77m.
 
Other top scorers for the men include Donteaus Moore in the 60m hurdles (8.34), Giovanni Jones in the 60m (7.03), Ladarius Williams in the 60m hurdles (8.44), and the men's 4x400 team (3:24.66).
 
For the women's team, Nia Lyles led the way by winning the gold in the shot put with a 13.61m toss. Right behind her earning the bronze was Liz Vermillon who earned a mark of 13.06m.
 
Morgan Ahle helped the team with a 5.26m long jump which was good for fourth place and a new personal record. The Breese, Ill., native also posted a fifth-place finish in the high jump at 1.57m.
 
The 4x400m team (4:01.92), Sarai Brown in the 60m (7.81), and Katelyn Turner in the pole vault (2.85m) round out the top-five finishes for the Maryville women.
 
Taylor Mason and Morgan Ahle were also both selected as James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Honorees.  Student-athletes chosen for this award are those who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports competition setting. Mason and Ahle are now eligible to become one of Maryville's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
