INS & OUTS
On the opening day of Baker qualifying, the Saints struggled early, dropping matches to both Central Missouri and No. 14 Duquesne before rebounding by beating No. 22 Delaware State, 1053-993, and No. 25 Mercyhurst, 1083-991. Their first day in Delaware ended in a close-fought battle against UAB, with the pins falling in favor of the Blazers.
Â
Heading into Saturday's traditional play, the Saints rebounded from a first-match loss to rattle off four straight wins, placing them in good position for Sunday's tournament play. The highlight of Saturday's action came in a No. 9 vs. No. 10 matchup where the Saints defeated No. 10 North Carolina A&T State, 1014-962.
Â
Facing Duquesne for the second time over the weekend, the Saints almost pulled off a comeback, dropping the first three games before winning the next three to force a game seven that didn't fall Maryville's way.
Â
Just one game away from victory left a sour taste in the Saints' mouth, and they took it out on No. 12 Louisiana Tech, sweeping them in four games. However, in the ninth-place match, it was the Saints' turn to be swept, as they fell in four games to No. 17 Mount St. Mary's.
