PITTSBURGH – The Maryville bowling team's run at the NCAA Regional tournament in Pittsburgh has ended, with the Saints going 1-1 on Saturday, falling to Regional Champion Nebraska after defeating Arkansas State earlier in the morning.Â
In the team's second meeting against Arkansas State, it was a 2-0 sweep. A 932 traditional put the Saints on top, with three-straight 200s in baker action putting them up by 96 pins, eventually finding the 1013-886 final for the sweep.Â
After a break, it was a rematch with the top-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers. It was tight-as-nails early, with five pins deciding the traditional set. Maryville rolled right back into it though, using a big 245 game three followed by a 189 in baker to force and 928-238 tie.Â
The tiebreak was decided by a modified baker game, with only the 6-10 frames being played. That went the Saints way but just nine pins, leaving it to a best-of-seven.Â
The Cornhuskers and Saints traded games to start, before the Huskers went on a dominant stretch, rolling a 228 and a 253 to close out the regional.Â
