INDIANAPOLIS – After a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament finals berth and its fifth-straight journey to the NCAA Tournament, the Maryville men's soccer team has been tabbed to finish third in the GLVC, according to Tuesday's Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Entering their second-year under Head Coach
Adam Hall, the Saints tallied 168 total points in the voting, including one first-place vote.
Key returners include
Sebastian Weitlaner on the offensive end, who logged 1,065 minutes on the pitch last season over 18 games, scoring four goals and recording three assists. He'll be supported up top by
Omar Cilic, the second-leading returning goal scorer, who quickly rose through the ranks in 2024 as a freshman to tally seven points on the year - including the decisive penalty in the GLVC tournament versus
McKendree.
On the defensive side,
Steen Nielsen returns after starting 13 games between the pipes last season, posting a 7-1-5 record over that span. The Highland, Utah, product notched six shutouts and a 0.82 goals-against average with 32 saves, with all three marks ranking in the top ten in the GLVC.
The Saints will begin their 2025 campaign with a slate of home contests, facing Cedarville Thursday, Sept. 4, Rogers State Saturday, Sept. 6, and closing out non-conference play against Wisconsin-Parkside Sept. 11.
