Baseball Steals Game from Grand Valley State 3-2

St. Charles, Mo. - The Maryville baseball team pulled off a double steal in the bottom of the eighth to emerge with a 3-2 victory over Grand Valley State Sunday to conclude the Maryville Baseball Classic in St. Charles, Mo.

In the decisive inning, Yoonjae Nam led off with a single to right field. Sean Murphy put down a sac bunt to move Nam into scoring position. After Louis Niemerg was hit by a pitch, Zach Ruckman reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. With two outs, Ruckman took off for second base. As the throw was on its way, Nam sprinted home on the back end of the double steal to score as both runners were safe.

The Saints tallied the first two runs of the game in the fifth inning. Niemerg and Ruckman had back to back singles, and Garrett Taylor moved the duo up with a sac bunt. Tyler Catlett pushed an RBI single through a drawn in infield for a 1-0 lead. Tyler Omlid squeezed in another run for the Saints and a 2-0 lead. The Lakers responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to set up the late inning drama. Brandon Downey pitched four innings of one-hit ball to pick up the victory on the mound for the Saints.
