Box Score Joplin, Mo. - Sean Murphy smashed a grand slam to key the Maryville baseball team to a 12-6 win Sunday and sweep a four-game series against Lincoln. The games were played in Joplin, Mo.
The Saints scored a run in the top of the first but the Blue Tigers took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Tyler Catlett continued his hot bat and drove in the tying run in the second. The Saints then put the first three batters aboard in the top of the third before Murphy cleared the bases with his grand slam smash. Evan Reister followed with a single and came around to score the eventual game winner on Conner Markell's sac fly.
The Saints pushed across three run in the fourth inning to stretch out their advantage. Mitch Carriger, Reister and Zack Ruckman all had an RBI to take a 10-2 lead. Lincoln pulled back three runs in the fourth but Maryville sealed the win with two tallies in the fifth.
Josh Bonds worked 3-2/3 innings of relief and picked up the win. He gave up just three hits and one run. Brandon Downey pitched the final two innings and did not surrender a run and allowed only one hit.
The Saints are 4-0 on the season and are next in action Feb. 13-14 as they face Union University for a three-game series in Jackson, Tenn.
