Lebanon, Ill. - After overcoming a five-run deficit, the Maryville baseball team was unable to grab the lead as McKendree scored late to post an 8-6 win over the Saints Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game in Lebanon, Ill.

The Bearcats used a two-run homer during a four-run first in the first and added another in the second for a 5-0 advantage. The Saints got a run back in the top of the third. Sean Murphy singled, took second on a Conner Markell single and moved to third on an error. Louis Niemerg lifted a sac fly to center as Maryville got on the scoreboard. In the top of the fifth, Niemerg again plated Murphy as the Saints drew to 5-2.

The Saints tied the score at 5-5 when Murphy launched a three-run homer in the sixth to drive in  Tyler Catlett and Zack Ruckman. However, the Bearcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead. The Saints pulled one run back in the eighth. Daniel Covert was hit by a pitch and took second after a single by Catlett. Covert reached third on a fielder's choice, and he scored on a wild pitch as the Saints closed to 8-6.

The Saints got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but could not tie the game. Tyler Omlid doubled to right with one out but was stranded there to end the game.

The Saints saw their two-game winning streak end and are now 9-10. The Bearcats improve to 5-11.
