Indianapolis - In two Great Lakes Valley Conference duals held Saturday in Indianapolis, the No. 4 Maryville wrestling team eased to a 50-6 victory over Bellarmine. Later, the Saints took on No. 18 Indianapolis and emerged with a thrilling 23-15 win over the hosts.
The first contested match against Bellarmine was at 149. James Krischke made quick work of his foe by recording a fall 49 seconds into the bout. Greg Hegarty took a 4-3 decision at 157. Travis Lang notched another pin for the Saints in under a minute when he picked up a fall at his 174 match in just 59 seconds. Tyler Harrington dominated his 184 bout with an 18-0 tech fall. Zeb Wahle recorded a pin in his 197 match at the 6:23 mark. Donnell Walker closed out the match with the fourth fall in 1:09.
Against the Greyhounds, the Saints trailed early due to a forfeit but Dakota Bauer got the Saints a win with a 13-4 victory. Hegarty had a crucial fall at the 2:20 mark to win his 157 match. Matt Pratt represented the Saints at 165 and trailed late but had a crucial reversal to pull out a 10-9 victory. Harrington again cruised in his match with a 16-2 major that pushed the Saints ahead 17-15 in the team score. Wahle again took the mat at 197 and notched another win to give the Saints a 20-15 cushion. In the finale, Walker, who is No. 7 nationally, defeated his No. 11 ranked foe Dylan Faulkenberg 8-5 to preserve a hard-fought 23-15 team victory.
The Saints remain in the Circle City and participate in the Greyhound Open Sunday, Feb. 5.
