Saints Nearly End Bellarmine's Long Home Win Streak

Summary
The Maryville men's basketball team nearly ended the longest home winning streak in the country but No. 3 Bellarmine rallied to edge the Saints 70-63 in a Louisville thriller. The Saints led for more than 25 minutes but the Knights extended their winning streak to 51 games in Knights Hall. The defeat ended Maryville's seven-game winning streak, the program's longest since 1998-99.

What Happened
The Saints were down 9-7 before jumping ahead for the rest of the half. Forrester Sims knocked down a 3-pointer, and Robin Thompson scored on a layup. Grant Sims hit one free throw for a 13-9 lead. BU sank a 3-pointer but the Saints answered as Jimmy Barton splashed in a triple. The teams traded points before Nolan Berry scored inside to start an 11-2 run. He followed with a 3-pointer. Bellarmine scored on a layup but Casey Teson hit a 3-ponter. Forrester Sims scored in the lane, and Teson sank another triple for a 29-16 lead. Thompson took over inside with a layup and a dunk as the Saints took their biggest edge at 33-18 with 3:46 left in the opener. The Knights cut into the lead but Maryville was still up 35-26 after a Berry tip at the halftime buzzer.

Early in the second half, Barton converted a 3-pointer to keep the Saints up 41-31. However, the Knights tallied the next seven points. Berry sank a layup for a 43-38 edge at the 15:20 mark. BU closed the gap to two until Teson sank his fourth 3-pointer of the night. Berry scored in the lane for a 48-45 lead, and the Saints were still up by one with 10:38 to go. However, Bellarmine finally took their first lead of the second half at the 10 minute mark. Berry drilled a 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 54-53 with 7:32 remaining. The Saints stayed closed as Berry again scored to make it 57-55. However, the Saints were unable to tie the game as the Knights escaped with the win.
