Richard Cato, Jr. (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates Chili) was recognized as Maryville's selection for the 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award for men's lacrosse, while junior
Tabatha Saake (Ballwin, Mo. / Parkway West) was chosen as the recipient for women's lacrosse. One student-athlete from each school around the league in every sport are selected for the honor.Â

Cato played in all six games this season for the Saints defense before the campaign was cut short due to the CoVID-19 pandemic. Saake was the starting goalie in all five games for the women's squad. She helped the team surpass the inaugural season's win total with three victories already and recorded 35 saves.

Individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two overall James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced on Monday, May 18.
