TOPEKA, Kan. –
Savannah Lesher and the men's 4x400 squad set new school records for Maryville track & field at the Washburn Open over the weekend. The Saints continued to burn through the record book, setting two more school records while taking five top-five finishes in Topeka, Kan.
Lesher, a sophomore transfer from Saint Louis University, finished the 600m in 1:34.35 besting the former school indoor record of 1:40.54 set by Courtney Manning in 2016. The men's 4x400 team, made up of
Cetris Ivy Jr.,
Jobey Smith,
Rand Mathews, and
Collin Haley, finished the race in 3:25.76 to break the old record of 3:26.98 set last season.
Nia Lyles continued her impressive start to the 2022-23 campaign with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (13.28m) out of 38 participants. She additionally logged a 10th-place finish out of 41 in the weight throw (15.29m). The 4x400 team also stood out, taking fifth at 4:05.87 while freshman
Aziah Hubbard placed fifth with a mark of 1.53m in the high jump.
Austin Terry led the way with a third-place finish in the high jump open event with a mark of 1.90m for the men. in the pole vault invitational,
Gavin McDonald took 7th of 13 (4.49m) and
Caleb Pyle helped out with a 17th-place finish out of 42 in the 5000m (15:34.15).
The indoor track & field season continues on Saturday, Feb. 11, as the Saints take on the Titan Open in Bloomington, Ill.
