Saints Rack Up Top Finishes, PRs at WashU Invite

ST. LOUIS – For the first time this year, the Maryville Track & Field team competed close to home, heading across town to the WashU Invite where the Saints dominated, snagging seven first place finishes and 12 total top three finishes.

WASHU INVITE
Harry Mitchell picked right back up where he was from the indoor season, tallying a NCAA Provisional mark in the 100 meter, while Bryson Pickard did the same in the 400 meter. Mitchell tallied the win in the 100 meter, running a 10.37, snapping the school record in the process, sitting him 12th in the nation in the event. Mitchell's mark was also a facility record for WashU. For Pickard he now sits ninth in the country in the 400 meter after his school record and event winning time of 47.11.

Those were not the lone school records to fall as Mallorie Metzger toppled the program best in the 800 meter. The records kept falling on the men's side as Wyatt Hilton snatched the 400-meter hurdles record with a top finish of 53.30.

Finishing the records that fell in the track side, the 4x100 record was snapped by the quartet of Giovanni Jones, Brendon Hoyte, Jayden Atkins and Mitchell, running a 40.74 as a quad for the top place in the event. Relays continued to dominate as the 4x400 record also fell with the group of Pickard, Mitchell, Landon Oxford and Jadon Salamone combining to run a 3:13.18, placing them second in the event and 12th in the nation, also hitting an NCAA provo.

Field saw two records fall with Amrish Hallberg improving upon his record from last weekend in the hammer throw, while Amel Abdul-Mumin snagged second place with his record-breaking leap of 14.30 meters.

Other top finishes not mentioned included Sarai Brown winning the 100 meter and the 4x100 team of Brown, Makayla Meyer, Rickalia Goss and Chloe Davis winning that event. Goss tossed in a second-place finish in the long jump with a 5.46, while Liz Vermillion landed in third in the shot put.

WASHU DISTANCE CARNIVAL
At the ever difficult and stacked WashU Distance Carnival, the Saints racked up five top five finishes, with Sam Gleason, Dawson McCown, Justin Brewer and Emma Neal all grabbing PRs in the 5K.

UP NEXT
The Saints head to Fayette, Mo., for the Central Methodist University Invite this week, with the two-day meet starting on Thursday and ending Friday.
