CLEVELAND – Three members of the Maryville men's soccer team have been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-Midwest Region teams on Tuesday.
Mason Crew lands on the first-team while
Bryce Glisson and
Alberto Di Pierri found spots upon the second-team.
Â
Communication professionals from across the NCAA Division II Midwest Region nominated candidates for each of the four position categories and then specifically nominated student-athletes for consideration for player of the year. Once the nomination process concluded, school and conference communication professionals from across the region voted for the two D2 CCA Midwest Region teams. The Midwest region is made up of member schools from the
Great Midwest Athletic Conference,
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the
Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Â
Crew, a senior from Fenton, Mo., continues his historic senior year with a first-team nod, having already become the Saints' first
GLVC Offensive Player of the Year earlier this year. Ending his year with 18 points on six goal and six assists, Crew becomes the seventh Saints to earn First-Team honors in program history. Theatrics were Crew's specialty as he grabbed major game winners against Lewis in the regular season and then over
Illinois-Springfield in the quarterfinals of the GLVC tournament.
Â
Glisson, was the yin to Crew's yang on the offensive side of the ball, scoring five goals with six assists to earn him a spot on the second team. He tallied those numbers in 1,223 minutes upon the pitch, adding three game winners.
Â
Di Pierri, a senior from Arborio, Italy, anchored a Saints defense that created nine shutouts over the season, including a double-overtime effort in the GLVC semifinals versus
McKendree. Di Pierri led the Saints in minutes, tallying 1,984 of the total 2,024 minutes of Saints' soccer played, adding in two goals and an assist to his resume as well.
Â
The Saints in the first year of the
Adam Hall era finished 11-5-6, advancing to the finals of the GLVC tournament and earning hosting duties for their fifth-straight NCAA tournament appearance.
