BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Maryville track and field team put on an impressive showing this weekend in Bolivar, Mo. at the Southwest Baptist-hosted Bearcat Invite, dethroning several school records and personal bests.
Â
INS & OUTS
The biggest story of the weekend came out of the relay crews, as on the women's side, the 4x100 team of
Makayla Myers,
Sarai Brown,
Chloe Davis and
Emoni Owens set a program record with a mark of 46.18. That time sits the quartet at 18th in the nation, with the only thing separating them from the win in the event was the nation leading race the SBU crew ran. The men's team, not to be outdone, did the same as
Terry Towah,
Giovanni Jones,
Ladarius Williams and
Kaleb Jett broke the same record on the men's side, running a 41.39.
Â
The relay crews were not done there as
Landon Oxford,
Bryson Pickard, Towah and Williams snapped the 4x400 meter record by over four seconds, defeating a record that stood since 2022.
Â
Field's representatives performed admirably, with
Kanden Bolton leading the charge, getting a mark of 7.39 meters in the long jump, demolishing the program record held by Rand Matthews from 2023 of 6.97. Bolton becomes the first Saint in program history to leap more than seven meters in outdoor season. The freshman's leap puts him in a tie for 12th in the nation.Â
Â
Outside of long jump,
Liz Vermillon and
Julia Hahn went second and third in the shot put.
Â
The sprinters kept their hot streak going, with Brown and Towah leading the squad. For Brown, her 11.53 time in the 100-meter won the event, upgraded her own program record and also put her into NCAA Nationals conversations, with her sitting eighth in the nation in the event.
Chloe Davis,
Emoni Owens and
Morgan Ahle all came home with new PRs to their name in the event.
Â
Towah's power came in the 400-meter, with his 48.20 setting a program record, snapping
Adrieon Keys time from 2021. His record came milliseconds away from being erased just one heat later as Pickard also finished with a 48.20, with Towah winning the event and Picard in second.
Â
Williams, who ran as part of the 4x100 and 4x400, finished second in the 110-hurdles, falling shy of his own program record.
Â
On the mid and long-distance side of things,
Courtney Talley in the 800 and
Lyric Ford in the 1500 both hit PRs, with Ford's coming alongside the event title. Four Saints, on Friday, March 28, made the trip over to WashU for the yearly distance carnival, with it being worth the trip as
Savannah Lesher,
Emma Neal and
Maddie Marschel hitting PRs in the 5K, while
Dawson McCown did as well for the men's team.
Â
UP NEXT
The Saints stay within Missouri again as they head to the Joey Haines Invite in Cape Girardeau, Mo., hosted by SEMO. Day one is set to begin on Thursday, April 3.
