Maryville junior golfer
Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week, Thursday, Sept. 25. She earned medalist honors at the Kansas City Cup Tournament, topping a field of 37 golfers at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.

In a tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to weather and course conditions, Diaz-Pizarro shot 72-71 and finished at 3-under-par 141 to take the title by five shots. She fired six birdies in her opening round, including four in a five-hole stretch and finished one-under par. Diaz-Pizarro followed up with four more birdies in her second round en route to a two-under round at 71. Her efforts helped the Saints finish as runners-up in the field of seven teams as Maryville missed out on the team title by just one stroke.

Diaz-Pizarro and the Saints return to the links Oct. 5-6 for the Bill Crabtree Invitational at The Pearl Club in Owensboro, Ky.
