Baseball Falls to Saint Joe's and Trevecca Nazarene

Nashville, Tenn. - The Maryville softball team closed out its weekend in Nashville, Tenn., but dropped a pair of outings. The Saints fell 10-5 to Saint Joseph's in a non-conference game, and were on the short end of a 5-4 decision to host Trevecca Nazarene.

In the first game against SJC, the Saints took a 1-0 lead on Mitch Carriger's RBI fielder's choice. The Pumas scored one run in the second, third and fifth innings before the Saints answered with two in the bottom of the fifth. Dalton Schumer singled to plate Tyler Catlett, and Carriger again had a fielder's choice that brought home Tyler Omlid to tie the game 3-3. SJC took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh but the Saints answered again. Zack Ruckman had an RBI single to plate Cody Klotz in the eighth inning. Down to their last out in the ninth, Carriger again came thru with an RBI triple to bring pinch runner Daniel Covert home. However, Saint Joseph's erupted for five runs in the top of the 10th inning to claim the win in extra innings.

The Saints scored the first three runs of the game against Trevecca. Catlett's RBI single scored Ruckman in the second, and Evan Reister doubled in Yoonjae Nam and Schumer in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead. TNU answered with two in the third and two more runs in the fifth for a 4-3 lead. The Trojans tacked on a crucial run in the top of the eight for a 5-3 edge. In the top of the ninth, Connor Markell doubled and scored on Catlett's RBI single. However, Catlett was stranded on first to end the game.

The Saints are now 6-5 on the season. They are next in action Friday, Feb. 26, when they host a tournament being played on the campus of Lindenwood University.
