The Maryville University men's basketball team had three honorees for the 2022
‐23 Academic All‐District Women's Basketball Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators. Earning the honor for the Saints are Ben Palacios, Jaeden Smith and Kelvin Swims.
The awards recognize
the nation's top student
‐athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Academic All‐District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America ballot. First‐, second and third‐team Academic All‐ America
honorees will be announced in mid‐March.
Palacios leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points and adds 4.1 rebounds per game. He has drained 61 3-pointers and leads the team in free-throw percentage at 83.5 percent. Palacios has a 3.90 grade point average and is a finance major.
Smith averages 7.3 points per game and is second on the team in made 3-pointers with 49. He is shooting 41.9 percent from deep and is second in free-throw percentage at 82.6 percent. Smith carries a 3.746 GPA in communications.
Swims averages 9.6 points and four rebounds per game. He is shooting 50.6 percent from the field and is second on the team with 87 assists. Swims has a 3.793 grade point average in business administration.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve who carries a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average and is at least a sophomore.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All‐America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national
governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022‐23 Divisions II and III Academic All‐
America programs.
