Vandalia, Ill. - In a nonconference game played Wednesday in Vandalia, Ill., the Maryville baseball team fell to Indianapolis 10-5. The Greyhounds used the long ball to spark their offense versus the Saints.

Maryville jumped on top with a run in the bottom of the first.
Daniel Covert was hit by a pitch, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch.
Zack Ruckman had an RBI single to get the Saints on the scoreboard. UIndy tied the score in the top of the second before the Saints retook the lead in the fourth when
Louis Niemerg launched a solo homer for a 2-1 edge. However, the Greyhounds tallied five runs in the top of the fifth, featuring a grand slam, to jump back ahead. Later, UIndy added a two-run homer for an 8-2 advantage.

The Saints attempted a late comeback in the seventh. Ruckman smacked a solo homer to start the rally.
Sean Murphy and Niemerg had back-to-back walks, and
Tyler Catlett reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners.
Tyler Omlid's single scored Murphy.
Troy Payton served as a pinch hitter and plated Catlett with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-5 but the Greyhounds sealed the win with two more runs in the eighth.

The Saints drop to 13-19, while the Greyhounds improve to 22-9. Maryville next hosts William Jewell for a four-game series starting Saturday, April 16, in St. Charles, Mo.
