The late John Renaud served as the head coach for the men’s soccer program from 1984 through 1999 and directed the Saints to 11 winning seasons.
He battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) for many years, while continuing to coach the Saints, before finally losing the battle to ALS in 2003. Renaud coached Maryville to regular-season SLIAC titles in 1993 and 1994 and won four SLIAC tournament titles. During his tenure, he had 21 first-team All-Conference selections, 24 second-team selections and 14 Honorable Mention selections. Renaud coached two Newcomers of the Year (1995, 1997) as well as the 1994 SLIAC Player of the Year. He was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year four times.
